How to add your billing information to your ConvertKit account (& FAQs)

DISCLAIMER: This article is neither financial advice nor tax advice. We recommend that you speak to your tax advisor with any questions or concerns about planning for your taxes.

Certain states require us to charge our customers sales tax.

To comply with US state tax laws, we need to assess and potentially apply sales tax to your ConvertKit subscription. Read more below about why this is happening.

To handle this change, all we need to know is your current billing address.

How do I update my billing address?

To add your billing address to your account, head over to your billing information (Settings > Plan). At the bottom of the page, click on 'Update address'.

A pop-up window will open prompting you to fill out your billing address:

Once you've added your details, click the green Update Address button to save. You're all done!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you need my billing address to charge sales tax?

Your billing address determines whether sales tax needs to be applied to a transaction and how much should be charged. For example, if your billing address is in New York state, then the New York sales tax will be applied to your ConvertKit subscription and will appear as a line item in your receipt.

Please note that in some states, sales tax rate varies by county, hence why it’s important to make sure you have the correct billing address set in your ConvertKit account.

I'm outside of the US. Why are you collecting my billing address?

We're collecting billing address information to ensure we have the most up-to-date information in our records to prevent incorrect sales tax assessment. We're also collecting billing addresses from customers outside of the US to help streamline the rollout of VAT in the future.

How much sales tax will I be charged on my next invoice?

The sales tax rate will be charged on the total amount of your next invoice. Let’s say you're based in Idaho and you’re on the $29 plan. If we implement sales tax on November 1st and your billing date is November 5th, then your next invoice will be $29 + $1.74 ($29 x 6% sales tax rate) = $30.74.

How can I make sure I am billed in the correct sales tax?

You will need to make sure your billing address is correct, especially if you've moved recently. Use the instructions above to add or update your billing address.
