Patreon integration

Connect with Patreon and keep everyone up to date.

Updated over a week ago

You can easily stay connected with your patrons using the connection between Patreon + ConvertKit.

This integration uses our Purchases feature, which gives you a lot of information about your subscribers. In this article we'll take a look at how to get set up!

Connect to Patreon

Click on Integrations under the Automate tab in the navigation. Then select Patreon.

Click the Authorize ConvertKit to access Patreon button.

A window will pop up asking you to log in to your Patreon account. Once you've done so, you'll need to allow the connection to Patreon. Click Allow to continue.

After that, you'll be taken back to ConvertKit. Click Next and that's it!

How it works

When someone supports you on Patreon, they'll be added as a subscriber in ConvertKit. From there, you'll be able see the tier they belong to each month by going to the Purchases tab in their subscriber profile!

You'll also see a custom field for each new subscriber titled "Patreon Tier." This field will change depending on the subscriber's current tier in Patreon.

Winning.

There are also three distinct tags that your patrons can receive when added to ConvertKit:

  1. "Patreon: Active": This tag is applied to patrons who are currently active.

  2. "Patreon: Cancelled": This tag applies if a patron cancels their membership.

  3. "Patreon: Declined": This tag applies if a patron's payment method was declined.

When a patron is tagged as either "Patreon: Cancelled" or "Patreon: Declined", the "Patreon: Active" tag will be removed. It's up to you to use these tags to exclude or include subscribers in ConvertKit.

NOTE: You may find some patrons in ConvertKit with the tag "Patreon: Active" but no purchase or pledge attached to their record. This is due to the data we receive from Patreon: when a patron's payment is in a pending state, Patreon still considers the patron as active. As soon as we receive confirmation from Patreon that the payment has been completed or declined, ConvertKit will update the patron's record accordingly (either by attaching the correct purchase or by tagging the patron as "Patreon: Declined").

Create an automation for your patrons

Let's create an automation for your new patrons using the ConvertKit visual automations feature.

To get started, go to Visual Automations under the Automate tab in the navigation and click the + New Automation button.

Then select "Create Automation" to create an entry point for your automation, and select the specific product you prefer.

NOTE: If you don't see your products or have questions about the Purchase feature, click here to see the purchases feature setup and FAQ.

From there you can add patrons to sequences, tags and more, to create the perfect post-pledge experience.
