Enable Recommendations on your third-party forms in minutes

If you're using third-party forms instead of ConvertKit Forms on your website, here's how you can display your Creator Network Recommendations on them!

Please also test your form after you set it up to ensure everything is working as expected.

For Gravity Forms

If you are using Gravity Forms, make sure you have the ConvertKit Gravity Forms plugin installed first. This will connect ConvertKit with Gravity Forms on your website.

Once you do that, you can display Recommendations on your form by toggling the Enable Creator Network Recommendations setting under your form's Form Settings.

You'll need to enable HTML5 output for Gravity Forms for this setting to appear.

Click Save Settings to save your changes.

Finally, make sure AJAX is enabled on the form's settings, under Advanced:

For all other supported third-party forms

If you have our ConvertKit WordPress plugin installed on your WordPress website, you'll be able to enable Recommendations on your third-party forms via the plugin soon!

In the meantime, follow the steps below to enable Recommendations on your third-party forms.

🚨 At this time, Thrive Leads, Growform, Mailmunch, Carrd, and Ninja Forms forms are not supported. But Mediavine's Grow is supported.

NOTE: If you are using this method, please disable any redirects you have put in place with your third-party forms before enabling Recommendations. If you still have a submission redirect in place, it will prevent the Recommendations popup from appearing.

If you prefer to redirect users to a separate Recommendations page, follow the steps here instead.

Copy the Recommendations code snippet

Go to the My Recommendations page of your Recommendations settings. Click the left sidebar's Settings tab, followed by the Edit button.

A Select where to show recommendations window will pop up.

Click the Are you using third-party form plugins? dropdown on it, then copy the code snippet that appears.

Add the code to your form's page

Using your HTML editor, open the page with the form on which you want to display Recommendations.

Paste the Recommendations code snippet you copied earlier anywhere on this page. Adding the code just above your form's code works great.

For example, here's how things will look when you paste the Recommendations code snippet into a Showit web page's code:

Save your changes.

Redirecting form users to a Recommendations page

If the Recommendations code snippet doesn't seem to be working or you're using an unsupported third-party form, you can redirect users who submit your form to a standalone Recommendations page instead.

The page looks like this:

To set up the redirect, get the Recommendations page's URL first. Go to the My Recommendations page of your Recommendations settings and click the Settings tab in the left sidebar.

Click the copy icon under the Share section to copy the page's URL.

Next, go to your form's confirmation settings and paste the page URL into the redirect URL setting. Here's how to do it in Gravity Forms, for example:

Your form may let you use an email_address query string to pass the user's email address to the Recommendations page.

If so, the user's email address will automatically appear on the Recommendations page when they're redirected there. They won't have to fill out their email address again to subscribe to your Recommendations. It's super convenient!

Set up the email_address query string like this:

email_address=[merge tag for your form's email address field]

The merge tag will be replaced with the user's email address when they submit the form.

Our merge tag in the screenshot above is {Email address:3}, but yours will likely differ. Check with your form provider if you aren't sure what it is.

How to test your Recommendations

Launch the live version of your form and try subscribing to it with a test email address.

As you do so, check whether your Recommendations appear after you've submitted the form. If they do, then everything is working great!

Are your Recommendations not showing?

If you've added your Recommendations via Gravity Forms or a code snippet on a third-party form, contact our support using the ConvertKit in-app messenger and we'll look into it.

NOTE: At this time, Thrive Leads, Growform, Mailmunch, Carrd, and Ninja Forms forms are not supported. But Mediavine's Grow is supported.

If you're trying to redirect users to a standalone Recommendations page, your form provider's support team may be the best people to contact for help.

You can also consider displaying your Recommendations on a ConvertKit Form instead. The article below explains how to set this up:
