How to use Broadcasts to create, send, and share emails with your audience!

Updated over a week ago

If you’re looking to send one-off, non-automated emails to your subscribers, then you’ll do so by sending a Broadcast.

In this guide, we’ll go through how you can create, send, and share your Broadcasts like a pro.

☝️ Apart from being sent out in email form, Broadcasts can also be displayed as standalone posts in your browser. (We'll get to that later.)

Read on to learn:

Creating your Broadcast

To create a new Broadcast, click on Broadcasts under the Send tab in the top navigation, followed by + New Broadcast.

You will then see the Draft page of the Broadcast editor:

This is where you will write and design your Broadcast. Let's go through each of the sections that are of interest in the Broadcast editor.

Subject line

Fill out the subject line of your Broadcast here.

Try to come up with something that will entice your subscribers to open your email. You can use emojis in the subject line too. 😃

A/B testing of your subject lines is also possible—click the A/B icon to fill out a second subject line.

For more information on how the A/B testing of subject lines works, check out our other tutorial!

Email editor

This is where the contents of your Broadcast will go. If you’re new to our email editor, we have a three-part guide to using the email editor here.

Otherwise, feel free to type away and add content to your email! We'll auto-save your work whenever you stop making changes. ✌️

Your email's exact look will depend on its email template. For example, this is how the email looks with the Coach template enabled:

And this is how it looks with the Intro template enabled:

But how exactly do you toggle between templates?

Glad you asked.

The sidebar

The sidebar allows you to do three main things:

Customize your email template

You will see the current email template that is in use for your Broadcast. Click the Browse templates button in the sidebar's Email tab to select the template you want to use for your Broadcast.

You can also click anywhere in your template to customize its colors, fonts, and more. Watch how the settings in the sidebar change as we click different parts of the template:

Change your email's background color

Use the Background color setting in the sidebar's Email tab to change your email's background color.

Preview your email

Click the Preview email button on the toolbar to preview how your Broadcast will look when it’s sent out. You can preview it either on desktop or mobile.

You can also preview it as a certain subscriber, or send a test email to your (or someone else’s) inbox.

When you’re happy with the look of your Broadcast, click the Continue → button at the bottom to be directed to the Publish page:

You can use the Preview button at the bottom to preview your Broadcast again before it’s sent out.

Publishing your Broadcast

Choosing how to deliver your content

You can choose how you'd like to publish your Broadcast—send email, publish to web, or both.

Select the appropriate option(s) to reveal more publish settings.

Send email

Choosing your From address

Below your subject line, you’ll see the From address. Choose which email address your Broadcast should be sent from (especially if you have multiple email addresses set up).

Choosing your Broadcast recipients

Next, you’ll set your Broadcast recipients.

The default setting for this is “All Subscribers,” which will send the Broadcast to all confirmed subscribers in your email list.

However, you can use the filters to send your Broadcast to only certain categories—or segments—of subscribers.

For example, here’s how to send your Broadcast to only subscribers who have a certain Tag:

Check out our other tutorial to learn more about using our Broadcast filters.

Setting a send date and time

After you’ve selected which subscribers should receive your Broadcast, set your Broadcast’s send date and time.

If you want to send the Broadcast immediately, leave this setting as "Send now." If you want to schedule your Broadcast to be sent later instead, click the pencil icon to set this up.

Setting preview text and internal notes

If you’d like, click Advanced options to set up your Broadcast's preview text and internal notes.

The preview text will give your subscribers a sneak peek of what your Broadcast is about (especially if they’re reading your Broadcast through their email notifications).

In contrast, the internal note section is for adding internal notes about the Broadcast for yourself—your subscribers won’t see these notes.

Publish to web

Setting up your Broadcast as a newsletter post

You'll need to add a thumbnail to the Broadcast for your newsletter feed, and alt text to help people using screen readers understand your image.

You also have the option to make the post available only to paid subscribers or set it as your Creator Profile's featured post.

Customize your Broadcast's post

Under Advanced options, you'll be able to edit the post's URL slug.

You can also edit its meta description. This is a description of your post that can appear when search engines display your post on the search results, and when you share your post on social media.

Happy with your settings? Then hit the Continue → button at the bottom!

When you do so, you will get one last chance to review your settings before confirming the send.

Sharing your Broadcast

Once you’ve sent or scheduled your Broadcast and/or published it to the web, you will see a success screen. Woohoo! 🎉

If you've published your Broadcast to the web, the success screen will provide options for you to directly share your Broadcast on your social media or share its link.

Key takeaways

  • Use Broadcasts to send one-off emails to your subscribers.

  • Write your Broadcast and choose whether to send it as an email and/or publish it to the web.

  • If you publish your Broadcast to the web, you can restrict its access to only paid subscribers and/or make it your Creator Profile's featured post.
