In your ConvertKit account we provide 3 email templates: Text Only, Classic, and Modern.

They are fairly basic (because simpler templates tend to perform better — see here for our founder’s article on this topic!), but each provides a slightly different aesthetic through some subtle style changes.

How to Preview Our Templates

You can view each of these templates on this page in your account. Our three default templates are at the top, under “ConvertKit Templates”:

To preview the template, simply click on it, and then click the ‘Preview Layout’ button on the next page. A browser window will pop up to show you what that template looks like.

First Things First

‘Text Only’ is exactly as it sounds: a text-only template without any bells & whistles!

Sometimes simple is best. This is the template for simple and straightforward!

Two More Options

The ‘Classic’ & ‘Modern’ templates have just a few additional styling changes.

They both have a centered layout and larger font size, as well as basic button & text styling built in. The main difference between the two is that  ‘Classic’ uses a serif font, and ‘Modern’ uses a sans-serif font.

Do you need a custom template?

Straight out of the box, our templates are clean, simple, and responsive. You can even create buttons with the Classic/Modern templates (click here for a guide on that!).

Unless you have a very specific style you’re set on, or if you’re just getting started with ConvertKit, chances are you might be just fine using one of our built-in templates!

That said, if you’re still looking for some more advanced customizations, such headers and footers, then a custom template might be a great option.
