Be notified each time you receive new sign-ups, purchases or unsubscribes.
Many creators want to have email notifications of a few key things for their list: new subscribers, purchases, and unsubscribes. Thanks to our integration with Zapier, you can do this!
This feature is available on a free Zapier account, which is simple to sign up for and set up. However, you’ll need to be on a paid ConvertKit plan, since it does require API access.
Using Zapier, you’ll be able to get email notifications for:
New subscribers for specific forms, sequences or tags
New purchases through ConvertKit Commerce or certain third-party e-commerce platforms
New unsubscribes to your emails
In this guide, we'll walk you through how to set this up!
Setting Up the Zapier Trigger
First, head to Zapier.com and create a new automation workflow—also known as a “Zap.”
Choose ConvertKit as the Trigger App.
Select one of the following as the Trigger Event, depending on what you want to get email notifications for:
New Subscriber
New Unsubscribe
New Form Subscriber
New Tag Subscriber
New Sequence Subscriber
New Purchase
For the purposes of this guide, we'll use the New Subscriber Trigger Event. If you’re using a different Trigger Event, you may need to go through certain extra steps when setting up the Zap.
For example, if you’re using the New Form Subscriber Trigger Event, then you’ll need to select the form for which you want to be notified of new subscribers.
After choosing your Trigger Event, click the Continue button and go through the next step of choosing your ConvertKit account (you’ll need to connect it to Zapier if you haven’t already).
You’ll also need to conduct a test of your trigger to make sure that Zapier can grab what it needs from ConvertKit. Once that's done, you'll be taken to the Action step.
Setting Up the Zapier Action Step
In the Action step, choose the email app that notifications should be sent to, such as Gmail or Outlook. If you use a different email app, you can check the Zapier website to see if it is supported.
For this demonstration, we'll use Gmail.
NOTE: You can also choose a different messaging app for receiving notifications, such as Slack! However, that app will need to support a Zapier Action for the sending of messages.
Select Send Email as the Action Event, then click Continue.
Choose the email account that you want to receive notifications to, then fill out the form fields to set up your notification. This includes:
Which email address(es) notifications should be sent to
The subject of your email, e.g. “New ConvertKit Subscriber!”
What the body of the email should say
As you fill out the form, Zapier will display placeholder data that you can use to customize your notification.
Continue through the next step to test your Zap. If everything looks good, name your Zap and turn it on. You're done!
