Creating and managing tags

How to create a tag, add a tag to new and existing subscribers, rename and manage tags, and more!

Updated over a week ago

Tags help you organize your subscribers in meaningful ways.

For example, you could tag all subscribers who had signed up for your newsletter with “Newsletter”, and all subscribers from Chicago with “Subscribers from Chicago”.

Subscribers can also be tagged with multiple tags at once! So a subscriber from Chicago who had signed up for your newsletter could have both the “Newsletter” and “Subscribers from Chicago” tags, for example.

But first, you’ll need to set up your tags if you haven’t already.

So in this guide, we’ll cover:

  1. How to create a tag

  2. How to tag existing subscribers

  3. How to rename and delete your tags

How to create a tag

Creating new tags is easy.

Go to Subscribers under the Grow tab in the navigation. Then, click on '+ Create a Tag' in the Tags section of the Subscribers page:

A modal will pop up, where you can fill out the name of your new tag.

Hit the Save button, and that’s it! Your shiny new tag has been created.

Tagging existing subscribers

NOTE: If you want to have your subscribers automatically tagged once they sign up to your email list, follow the instructions here instead!

To tag your existing subscribers, use the checkboxes on the Subscribers page to select all the subscribers who are to be tagged.

Then, use a Bulk Action to tag them.

If you’d like to select all subscribers for tagging, select the checkbox at the top (next to the “Subscriber” heading) and click the link "Select all XX subscribers in your account."

Renaming and deleting your tags

NOTE: If you’re looking to delete the subscribers in a particular tag, follow these instructions instead.

After you've created a tag, you may want to rename it or delete it altogether.

To do so, go to your Subscribers page and click on the tag that you want to rename or delete.

The Subscribers page will refresh to show a list of subscribers who have been tagged with that tag (if any). Then, click on the “Edit” link next to the name of the tag.

In the modal that appears, you can rename or delete your tag.

Save your changes and you’re done!
