This is the full text of an email sent to all ConvertKit customers on 10/7.
First off, I want to say that we're sorry. This message should have been in your inbox more than a week ago. Proactive communication with you is a huge opportunity for us, and we dropped the ball. We will do better.
In the past few weeks, we've added some new security measures to our forms. One measure in particular has caused some confusion--CAPTCHA.
It sounds kind of scary, because it's always in all-caps, and most of us have been around since the days when it took forever to figure out the letters and numbers in that blurry picture. But it has evolved a lot since then, into a simple checkbox that says "I am not a robot."
The way that it works with our forms is that, if a certain set of conditions are met, the form first redirects to a page with the checkbox CAPTCHA, and then on to your Thank You page. That means it will not display to all of your subscribers, only those that trigger the conditions to display it. This conditions can include subscribing multiple times in a short period, being subscribed to a large number of ConvertKit customers' lists, or any kind of potentially suspicious behavior we have seen from bots or nefarious subscribers in the past.
We are constantly tweaking these conditions, always with the aim to make them as user friendly as possible while keeping spammers in check. If you are seeing it while you are testing your forms, keep in mind that testing behavior is very different from subscriber behavior. Seeing CAPTCHA does not mean you are bad or suspicious!

If you are using integrations for lead capture, this new CAPTCHA process does impact some of our integrations. If you are using an API connected integration, like the Leadpages Drag & Drop Builder, OptimizePress, Thrive, OptinMonster, and so on, your integrations are completely unaffected. If you're not sure if it is API connected, return to the instructions of when you first set this up. Did you have to add your API key? If yes, then you do not need to do anything.
If your integration required you to to paste ConvertKit form HTML in order to connect, your integration may be affected. We are currently aware of issues with the Leadpages Standard Builder, PopupAlly and Contact Form 7.
If you are using the Leadpages Standard Builder, you will need to reconnect your Leadpages to ConvertKit, following this process: LeadPages Integration. If you are having trouble with this, it may be worth considering using the Drag & Drop Builder instead. It is a much simpler integration process.
