How to invite an existing contact list to ConvertKit

If you are starting with ConvertKit from scratch when it comes to building your list, or you have an existing list but you’ve never used an email marketing platform before - you’re probably wondering how to get your personal contacts into ConvertKit. This could be a personal contact list of family and friends, your followers or group members on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., or people’s email addresses you have collected from conferences or events.

According to the CAN-SPAM Act, your subscribers must understand and be aware of opting into your email list willingly, and have an easy and clear way to be able to opt out at any time as well. Due to this, you can’t just simply import this personal contact list and start emaling them directly from ConvertKit. You must give them an option to personally subscribe to receive emails from you.

Here are the quick steps on how to easily do that:

  1. Create a Landing Page to allow your contacts to subscribe with
  2. Send your list an invite email, from your personal email address, to allow them to subscribe to your ConvertKit list
  3. Once these contacts organically opt into the Landing Page you can start contacting them directly from ConvertKit!
